The Children's Museum in Oak Lawn faced the challenge of moving from their small 1,000 sq. ft. space to a new 12,000 sq. ft. space that required a full build-out and exhibits. MindSplash worked with CMOL to complete a full Exhibit Master Plan, including a full schematic building layout and 9,000 sq. ft. of brand new exhibit areas and exhibits.
In the midst of their capital campaign, the local economy plummeted. MindSplash, with the CMOL board and staff, devised a short- and long-term phasing strategy, with a new space plan and revised exhibit designs to allow them to open with limited funding. MindSplash led this effort that included nearly new and custom exhibits for select planned areas that filled their space for a soft opening in July 2009.
MindSplash has continued to work with CMOL on additional exhibit areas, and residents from near and far have responded very favorably. CMOL’s 10,000 annual visitorship prior to the move has grown to more than 100,000 annual visitors.
