The MUSE Knoxville
Scope of Work:
Feasibility, New Museum Master Plan, and Operational Pro Forma
MindSplash is working with a dynamic group in Knoxville, TN to plan a unique hybrid children's and science museum. MindSplash began to work with the MUSE team in 2007 by designing and fabricating Sprout Studio in west Knoxville. From the seeds of this pilot museum, the MUSE of Knoxville was formed in 2011 and MindSplash completed their strategic plan that same year.
In 2013, MindSplash, along with a national known team of designers, completed work on a Museum Master Plan and an Operational Plan for Financial Stability. Key to the plan was community meetings, the development of an exhibit advisory, growth of the organization, and evolution of exhibits in phases.
The planned 30,000 sq. ft. MUSE learning landscape includes eight exhibit zones that are a fusion of science and the arts: DARK, MOVE, FLOW, PATTERN, SPIRAL, YOU, BUILD AND SPROUT. In addition, a large multisensory, unique climber, and three MAKE-LABS designed for different ages and using a variety of materials will provide a rich S.T.E.A.M. environment for visitors of all ages.
